Manuel Pellegrini, coach of Real Betis, opted not to include Moroccan international Abdel-Samad Zalzouli in the starting lineup for the recent match against Osasuna, which Betis won 2-1. Pellegrini explained that the decision to keep Zalzouli on the bench was to prevent potential injuries, considering the player’s significant playtime at the start of the season and his recent involvement with the Moroccan national team.
Pellegrini expressed concerns about overworking Zalzouli, mentioning similar situations with other players who had falls during matches after heavy usage. He stated, "I hope we can manage the match without Zalzouli, as he's played a lot recently." Despite reports linking Zalzouli with a potential loan move in the upcoming winter transfer window, Pellegrini believes he is a crucial part of the squad given his improving performance this season.
This season, Zalzouli has participated in 13 matches for Betis, scoring 3 goals and providing one assist, proving to be a significant threat to opposing defenses. His contract with Real Betis runs until the summer of 2028, after previously playing for Barcelona and Osasuna.
Additionally, he has played 19 matches for the senior Moroccan national team, scoring 2 goals, and represented the under-23 team, winning the Africa U-23 Cup of Nations and securing a bronze medal at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
