Ukraine Unleashes Over 100 Drones in Major Assault on Western Russia

Ukraine Launches Large-Scale Drone Strikes Against Western Russia

On October 20, the Kremlin announced that its air defense systems successfully intercepted over 100 Ukrainian drones during a major assault targeting key military facilities in western Russia. The strikes, which took place overnight, mark one of Ukraine's largest offensives in the ongoing conflict, escalating tensions between the two nations.

The Russian Ministry of Defense reported that all 110 drones were destroyed, with interceptions occurring across several regions, including Kursk and Lipetsk. Notably, the attacks targeted the state-owned Sverdlov Plant in Dzerzhinsk, known for producing explosives and ammunition for the Russian military.

While Russian officials claimed that the assaults were thwarted, Ukrainian military leaders celebrated the strikes as significant victories. Kyiv's armed forces reported numerous explosions at the Dzerzhinsk plant and the military airfield in Lipetsk, although local governors asserted that no casualties had been reported.

Governor Gleb Nikitin noted that some fire department workers suffered minor injuries but were treated promptly. In response, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky highlighted the ongoing drone warfare, indicating that Russia has launched over 6,130 Iranian-made Shahed drones against Ukraine this year alone.

As the conflict escalates, both sides continue to engage in extensive drone warfare, with Zelensky urging the need for enhanced capabilities to dismantle drone production and logistical infrastructure. The situation remains tense as both nations prepare for further military developments.
